I was earlier today reminded of some comics based on Erich Von Daniken's 'Chariot of the Gods' books. This'd be from the late 70s/early 80s I think. They were in the same format as the Asterix and Tintin books, and were probably European in origin (French or German), translated to English.

They were told from the point of view of the 'visitors' and at various parts they were carving out lines in the nazca plains using their 'sondes' (or 'zondes'? Rocketships with three big engine bells at the back splayed out at funny angles). IIRC the lead female character had a weird silver headband on that gave her psychic powers? And I think there was a power struggle among the Visitors involved at some point. It's sheer nostalgia that makes me want to take another look at those again, cos when I was a kid I thought they were quite cool (being as I was at the time into ghost stories and unexplained phenomena and the bermuda triangle and atlanteans and so on). By modern standards it'd probably be quite cheesy, but I've got the hankering now. I've googled for 'Von Daniken comic books' but I couldn't find anything.
I can't remember the exact title of the books, I think it was a three or four issue series. Does anyone out there have a clue what I'm talking about? Are there any links to it anywhere? I have read them in, I think, a collected version - but in Danish. Damned if I can remember what they're called, though. About the only thing I can remember is the names of the heroines - Ais and Aistar.
That definitely rings a bell. (wasn't there an umlaut over the i in 'Ais' too?) Dammit, I can remember images from the comic very clearly, just can't seem to find any mention of it online at all. I remember they had a 'garden of eden' setup for the primitive hominids that they found on Earth too. And they probably tinkered with their genetics too.

Never mind the probably dubiousness of the author's claims, it made for a pretty neat scifi story:). I red this comics, which felt by casualty in my hands on first 80'. I remember well because on those times I was very interested on futuristic drawing and design -I was developing my drawing capabilities then!- and I enjoyed very much the space ships and launchers designs, wich seemed to me more 'modern'-in line of films like 2001, or other science-fiction films of this times- more 'real', if you want, that Flash Gordons', to make perhaps not a good comparison.
I can't remember if I red them in spanish or catalan - I'm from Barcelona-, but I remember well the Trydent who ornates the launchers of the 'gods'- I repeted it in some of my designs-, and some characters, as Isthar or Satan, and left me a sensation that there were different than other comics perhaps cause were based on those fantastic theories from Daniken. Despite of this I'm afraid I can't help you more because I've lost completely any other reference.
